4 things to post about!

the last couple of days have been eventful! they might not be so exciting or sad for you but they have been significant to me all the same.

firstly...my Tim has gone back to Brisbane for the Christmas break. he left yesterday and when we got to the airport his flight was delayed for a little bit. which was ok, but we kept hearing announcements saying sorry this flight has been delayed even more which was ok because we got to spend some more time together. 2 hours after his original departure time he left. so i have been keeping busy this past 24 hours and i am looking forward to seeing him in a weeks time. he is such a sweety.

secondly while we were waiting for the flight we were browsing the Adelaide airport and i stumbled across the latest frankie (www.frankie.com.au) magazine. and they have a free poster in every issue so i looked at it and my it was delightful! so i picked it. little did i know the artist is a London based artist and i had been checking out her stuff through Anna's blog...if you follow the link to her blog the link is on her blog...and it is such nice work. so i learnt a bit more about her work and i am excited to check out her blog and online shop more often!

thirdly the other day i watched stranger than fiction with Will Ferrall and Maggie Gylanhall. i really enjoyed it and liked the characters. i also enjoyed Anna's (Maggie's character) tattoo on her arm!

fourthly, and possibly most importantly, it rained in Adelaide today. and not just a pissy rain where it rains for 10 minutes and spits...this was fairly heavy and for a number of hours! Praise God! i hope some farmers got the rain too!

and now i am at my parents house ready for dinner and tomorrow my sister moves in with me!

much love x

Holiday Fun

the last couple of days have been filled with holiday fun!

Thursday night i got to go and see reel big fish and less than jake. ltj have been a band to allude me the last 5 years. they played in Brisbane the night i graduated from uni and my parents were up from Adelaide to celebrate, i couldn't very well blow them off for a ska show...well i could have but it wouldn't have gone down so well! :)

they were so great. Tim was sick and couldn't make it so jek stepped in to use the ticket. and it was a skankin fiesta! listening to ska music makes me want to dance and makes me smile! it was fantastic to see reel big fish again, they don't disappoint. they played a few new songs which i had no clue about but there were the old favourites like Beer, take on me and of course to finish the set sell out! seeing that band always makes me want to be a trumpet player and wish there was more of a ska scene in Australia!

less then jake they opened with the song i wanted to here so i was thrilled. the bass player was celebrating his 31st birthday and made some crude comment about wanting visitors at his hotel rooms that had boobies. for some reason i am always disappointed when bands get smutty. i don't know why but it always annoys me! other then that they were ace and i was very happy to see them! AND i remembered to take ear plugs! so no ringing ears for me! YES!!

the day before i got to hang out with a good mate of mine Megan who was down from Brisbane doing an info session for the company she works for. CCUSA they do summer camps in the USA and so i got to enjoy her company. she is wonderful and it was indeed wonderful to see her again.

another holidays treat was a visit to the movies in the city. Tim is unwell and is having trouble sleeping so we thought we would go do something to tire him out! so we went to see "into the wild". it was phenomenal. wonderful and brave. This is what Margaret from the movie show on the ABC had to say about it:

Just so everything is out in the open, Sean Penn is one of my favourite filmmakers. He’s not prolific, but every now and then he comes up with a gem.INTO THE WILD is only his fourth film since 1991’s The Indian Runner. It’s the story of Chris McCandless, based on John Krakauer’s 1997 account of the true life adventures of this young man who rejected his middle class upbringing, his chance to go to Harvard and instead donated his savings to Oxfam and hit the road.

EMILE HIRSCH plays Chris. The people Chris met along the way, when he was calling himself Alexander Supertramp, are intrigued by this young man. And none more so than octogenarian widower Ron Franz, played superbly by HAL HOLBROOK.The story of this young man who went seeking some sort of transcendental experience can be taken in a number of ways and the film allows you that freedom. There’s a cruelty, a selfishness to his freedom. He didn’t contact his parents played by MARCIA GAY HARDEN and WILLIAM HURT or his sister played by JENA MALONE and yet there’s also a beauty in the landscape he discovered and an homage to the gentle, enquiring spirit of Chris himself. There are no intimate connections on his journey but there are significant ones.VINCE VAUGHN, CATHERINE KEENER, impressive newcomer BRIAN DIERKER give the film depth with their performances. It’s what you can expect from a Sean Penn movie. He waited patiently for 10 years to get permission from the McCandless family to make this film. He’s written a beautiful screenplay and taken risks with the direction, which all pay off, and he’s elicited magnificent performances, especially from Emile Hirsch. It is so close to being a masterpiece, but then as I said at the beginning of this review, I’m biased.

this summed it up and i would strongly encourage anyone who reads this to check it out. i thoroughly enjoyed it! and i think most people will, the story is brilliant!~ if you do get to see it, let me know and i hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

happy days to you x

EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

A major hurricane (Hurricane Shazza) and earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Gympie in the early hours of Friday with its Epicentre in Mary Street, Gympie. Victims were seen wandering around aimlessly, muttering "Faaackinell". The hurricane decimated the area causing approximately $30.00 worth of damage...

Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken well before their Centrelink cheques arrived. The Gympie Times reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered and were still trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened in Gympie.

One resident - Tracy Maree Sharon Britney Madonna Smith, a 15-year-old mother of 5 said "It was such a shock, my little Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two Joachim and River slept through it all." Apparently, looting, muggings and car crime were unaffected and carried on as normal.

The Australian Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of Bacardi-Breezers to the area to help the stricken locals. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, including Health Care Cards, jewellery from Kmart, and Bone China from Big W.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? This appeal is to raise money for food and clothing parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in this disaster. Clothing is most sought after - items most needed include: baseball caps, tracksuits, singlets (blue & white) white sport socks, reebok boots and any other items usually sold in Priceline or The Reject Shop. Food parcels may be harder to come by, but are needed all the same. Required foodstuffs urgently needed include: Microwave meals, baked beans, Ice cream, Chips, Fizzy drinks. Donations $15.00 will be taken to buy a packet of winny blue 25s and a lighter to calm the nerves of those affected.

**Breaking news** Gympie Uniting Church has cancelled their local "Nativity Display" due to their inability to find three wise men or a virgin. Please don't forward this to anyone living in Gympie - oh, stuff it, they won't be able to read it, anyway!

Sin Chau!

I'm in the big V!
yes! i'm here in Vietman and the heading of this blog is how you say hello!
we (as a team) have been trying to learn a new word each day on the way to the build site!

so we left saturday mornign and flew an 8 and a half hour flight to Kualar Lumpar and stayed the'r the night.got up and flew to Ho Chi Min city where we got to go and look at the markets. we stayed there sunday night and got up at a lovely 4.15AM on monday to make our way to Rach Gia and here we have been! first few days were a little frustrating and tiring...getting here and then checking out the sites! and meeting the people have been great. we visited an orphanage on monday and the kids were CUTE! and LOVED having their photo taken and then looking at the photo!

this one is quick BUT i thought i would follow Adrian's lead with you know you're in!

So you know you're in Vietman when...
1.you order a chicken dish and you get the claw and beak included
2. Hello Moto isn't the start of the motorola ad...it's actually hello fatty ( a kid said that to anna and I today!)
3. You watch someone skin a duck for dinner
4. a hat cost 80,000 dong (around $5.50 australian)
5. you have to squat to go....i'm going to leave it there!
6. you are driving down the road and motorbikes are coming towards you...and not getting out of the way....and driving without a helmet!
7. when you cross the street...you don't wait for the traffic to stop you go...and hope they dodge you :0

much love and will update when i am back!

Melbourne

I've changed my mind about Melbourne. On my last visit I had some encounters with a few snobs, too many stairs with a really heavy suitcase!
this time however i went to a conference learnt alot of great stuff and then had a day to hang with some good mates. I stayed with Mevlana and her boyfriend Tony, they live in parkville, not parkview! and a friend i met at high school in Adelaide came along and hung out too! it was a little crazy to see him!

and then i got to discover the little alley ways and boutiques and cool little eating places with Ben, Kylie and Tim. and there are multiple chocolate cafes there! so we enjoyed some very yummy strawberry's dipped in chocolate! it was wonderful, so i am totally going back for a visit!

day time tv

so when you are sick you sleep, drink water, eat little and when you aren't sleeping you want to be sleeping because day time tv SUCKS.
Saturday night saw me, jek (sis)and tim (bf) off to the hospital cause my stomach was being a pain in the stomach. lots of grose stuff was coming out of me and i couldn't deal! so we went and sat at the hospital for 5 hours...on a side note while we were there a few guys...not just one but i can recall three...i was slipping in and out of sleep not sure how on that hard floor...anyway three guys come in with blood pouring out of their faces and there had been a beating of some sort. it was awful. so they got in before a lot of people. finally got in and was told yeah it's gastro take this and go to bed...thanks doctor for that tiny white pill...

so since Sunday i have been off work...Monday was OK the day time tv concept was new...i mean since first year uni i hadn't watched alot of day time TV so watching kerry ann...wasn't too bad...it was either so bad i couldn't look away or i was genuinely enjoying it...mmm not sure...
but today still off work...trying to wean myself off of the couch...trying to sit up for longer periods of time...so i don't have to watch TV... mmm
I'm ranting...
bah and i'm starting to feel faint again..
back to the couch.

the tale of two prawns

A mate of mine sent this to me! ha I wont take responsibility for the dad joke at the end!

Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, two prawns were

swimming around in the sea, one called Justin and the other called Christian. The
prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that
inhabited the area.

Finally one day Justin said to Christian, "I'm fed up with being a
prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries about being
eaten."
A large mysterious cod appeared and said, "Your wish is granted." Lo and
behold, Justin turned into a shark.Horrified, Christian immediately swam
away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate. Time passed (as it
invariably does) and Justin found life as a shark boring and lonely. All his old
mate simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin didn't realize
thathis new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight.

While swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious cod again and he thought
perhaps the mysterious fish could change him back into a prawn. He
approached the cod and begged to be changed back, and, lo and behold, he
found himself turned back into a prawn.

With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swam back to his
friends and bought them all a cocktail (the punch line does not involve a prawn cocktail - it's much worse). Looking around the
gathering at the reef he realized he couldn't see his old pal.

"Where's Christian?" he asked.
"He's at home, still distraught that his best friend changed sides to
the enemy & became a shark," came the reply.
Eager to put things right again and end the mutual pain and torture, He set
off to Christian's abode. As he opened the coral gate, memories came
flooding back. He banged on the door and shouted: "It's me, Justin, your old
friend, come out and see me again."
Christian replied, "No way man, you'll eat me. You're now a shark, the
enemy, and I'll not be tricked into being your dinner."

Justin cried back "No, I'm not. That was the old me. I've
changed........."

(You're going to love this.....)

"I've found Cod. I'm a Prawn again Christian."

onya Sez!

die space

is another name for myspace.
i tell you what i am not going to get sucked in...hopefully.
people keep telling me to check their myspace and i do...and then i find i know their other friends and then i click on their myspace and then...well it's a snowball effect...it's addictive and it's BAD

i mean my own sisters had to "go check their myspace" the night i came over for family dinner...
disgraceful!

i did start one about 2 years ago...well it looks the same as it did then...no picture etc...i hope it's going to stay that way...

new birth

God is good.
he's faithful.
he comes through with the goods when you need him.
I witnessed one of the students i work with get baptised almost two weeks ago. she had made the decision that she wanted to be baptised, she believes that Jesus is her Lord and Saviour.

We were at a camp called ypout (www.lysa.asn.au\ypout )
and it was so cool!

so tired

when i was a kid i loved playing netball. started in grade 3 and got a trophy that year. it was fun.
then i continued. when we moved to bundy i was playing school, club and indoor. in grade 11 and 12 i played a trained sometimes 5 times a week, it was a big part of my life.

When i moved to brisbane i wanted to join a uni team, but they never got back to me. so for the 4 years at uni i didn't play, until a mate moved to brisbane, i played for 3 games and then moved to adelaide.

so i played a little indoor last year and a bit of mixed.

today i played my first game in an outdoor team, we even trained on tuesday. it was fun..but it rained so much and i played centre...hard stuff...tonight i am VERY tired!

Brisneyland

i am back in brisbane, the first time since January. it is so good to be back, got off the plane and it's so familiar and good. i got to have a fun plane trip with Fiona. We worked out that she would be in a town over Easter and then when we weren't going to be able to meet up we worked out we were booked on the same flight! so we booked to seat together. we ate Easter eggs and laughed alot!

Chris and Sez picked me up and i got to see their new house they have just bought, it's great. we got to chat and went to bed late! today has been fun hanging with Sez and now at KT's house. I got to do one of my favourite things. Go to rockinghorse records. i miss that CD store like i'd miss my right arm...actually that may be a little extreme...but they have a great selection. I got the cd by the drummer from underoath, his side project band's cd...is that sentence correct even?

Brisbane is so much busier than Adelaide.

i think this weekend is going to be TOPS...less then 5 hours til i see jekka joo...and i say YES to that!

HUGS X

he is risen

Easter Sunday is such a fantastic day. it's the day our Lord conquered death.
i was having an interesting conversation with my sister JEK about how Easter to alot of Australian's is just a four day weekend and that that bothered and saddened her a bit. for me today was a joyeous occassion to remember God's promise to us, to forgive us and his sacrifice in his son Jesus. i've been able to spend the day with 5/6th of my family and two friends. it was a wonderful day

happy easter to you all

He is RISEN, He is risen INDEED!

it was reel

A few years ago i went and saw a band called reel big fish play at the arena in brisbane. it was an excellent show. the day after they played a free gig at a skate park on the south side of brisbane. that to was a very cool show.

Last monday i went and saw them again, some 4 years since these shows. They still have it. I mean there are only 3 of the original 7 members and these days there are only 6 members. and since i saw them the new trumpet player back then is no longer in the band, there was some blonde guy. i was afraid they were going to play a bunch of new songs, and i don't know the new album. BUT the started with trendy, and they played all the ones i wanted to hear, the set up, i want your girlfriend, toob top, where have you been, their fantastic cover of take on me...and then they finished their encore with sell out. my night was complete. i walked home a very satisfied gig goer. my ears ringing and a mate to share the night with. onya sarah.

all week my ears were a little foggy though...i really do need to remember to wear earplugs to shows, i'll be deaf by 30 if i'm not careful.
tomorrow night wolfmother
and i got tickets for underoath...i wont even go into how excited i am about that!

Scruffy Wallace

is the name of the bagpipes player in Dropkick murphys....
what a champ.

on another note...underoath are touring with emery and they are actually doing an adelaide show. so very exciting!

went to the garden of unearthly delights. went on the ferris wheel which was cold, but fun. the trapeze artists were done for the day which was a bit of a shame. and we went and saw the man with a big claw or something...it was pretty off beat BUT he did show a bit of an old heaman cartoon as well as captain planet. pretty cool!

that punk rock band from boston

so last night was possible the most fun i've had at a punk rock show in quite some time!
first of all it was an 18+ show which makes it better. now i'm not trying to decriminate against younger people, i love young people but when you get to 23 and you go to an 18+ show then i am still at least 5 years older then the youngest people there...

anyway i'm getting off topic...

i went and saw the dropkick murphys last night. WOW
ok so they consist of 7 guys from boston in the usa but they have alot of irish links! they ing alot about ireland. they have a guy who plays bag pipes (and please note that there was a pirates flag from the top if the bagpipes!),there was a recorder, a piano accordian, guitars (of course), a left handed bass player...and left handed drummer! ahhh they played the songs i wanted to hear and some i hadn't heard. check out rocky road to dublin... it's such a great song.
and then to top the night off i got to go on to the stage with the band...and shannon my new gig buddy was there too on the stage! hahaahhaha it was funny!

anyway someone needs this computer!

do yourself a favour and check them out

adam hills what a leg

i went last night to the theby theatre to see Adam Hills an australian comedian. he was so funny, as you hope all comedians will be. he did his advance australia fair thing...where he sings the words to our national anthem to the tune of working class man by jimmy barnes...sooo good! and there was a signer there and he kept catching her out to do rude signs...

lots of laughs.

check him out if he's ever in a town near you.

dropkick murphys tonight! YES!!

Nikola and 10 year not so reunion

when i heard that the lead singer from milliencolin was doing a solo acoustic tour i thought for sure Adelaide would be skipped. but to my absolute joy he did a show at enigma on Saturday night and it was fantastic. i went solo and met a friendly fellow who i studying to be a nurse and he bought his mum and dad along which was cool!
and he played and played to the small but very committed crowd...i even got a set list after and got a to lauren from nikola! but it was hard to get in because everyone was spell bound afterwards...(i'm telling you it was wonderful everyone should have been there!)

and this guy was talking to him and asking if he liked wine...cause his friends (and he pointed to his friend) dad owns a winery in the barrossa henske wines...and the funny thing is that when dad was studying we used to go out to the barrossa and the owner of that very winery used to go to the same church...i reakon it was his son that played the saxaphone...he was pretty nice on the eye...but because i was so pre occupied with nikola i only realised this a couple moments later and when i went to freak him out and ask him if his parents did go to that church he was gone! oh well...it was a wonderful night...i parked on hindley street and my car was still there when i got back so i was pretty pleased!

stepping into the century we currently live in

all i can say is mum and dad got broad ban...

you little ripper!

NOFX....

there is nothing like going to a live show...and further there is nothing like going to a punk show. it had been a while since i had heard the fast drums, loud guitars and the music that i really do appreciate in a venue with lots of people.

that was my Monday night.
nathaenal and i went and met up with a bunch of his mates. i proceeded to loose them and spent alot of the night by myself. however did bump into Rowan a nice young man i have met on a number of occasions. we had an interesting conversation. i didn't pick him being into NOFX and he said he doesn't like to tell people that cause people tend to judge you by the music you listen too. i think i found myself doing that from time to time...and i do that when i have to listen to music i don't like! and it was an interesting point and such.

i found Than just before they started and i enjoyed it for the most part. up until they started bagging Christians and i wasn't down with that. i concluded they make good music but they take tooo many drugs and drink to much.

they did play bottles to the ground and i do enjoy that song!

i was also informed NIKOLA the lead singer from milliencolin is playing at enigma on sunday night! i'm getting myself along to that one too!

just when i thought i was growing out of my punk stage....

the curse of the sneeze

If i was living in the days when the plague was rampid i would have been locked up or shoved underground because my sneezing would have made people think that i had the plague.
perhaps i should be locked up under ground because then the pollen and everything else that makes me sneeze, my eyes itch and nose run wouldn't do those things to me....

telfast are making a lot of money out of me these days....
and it's not even spring!

nofx tonight...it's come up and i didn't even get into the counting sleeps for it cause of the busyness of everything...so i am looking forward to it. to the fast drums and the loud guitars!

Monday, February 19, 2007

let's sing it...HOT HOT HOT

i thank God for air conditioning and the fact our flat got ac earlier this year, cause it was a stinker on the weekend...not sure what the actual temp got to but saying it was rather warm was an understatement...today we had a cool change and now it's only 34!

so i've been a bit in need of up dating this but i don't have the net at home and whenever i go to mum and dad's i just want to hang out with them and chat...and stay in the cool ac...the "bunka" as it is affectionately known is detached from the house and can get hot as hell.

new things in my life
1. i have now seen tool twice in concert...thanks to the big day outs (gold coast and Adelaide)
2. i am addicted to gilmore girls...no thanks to brad and di!
3. i went and saw a night at the museum on saturday with my youngest sisters...it was ridiculous BUT i loved it! good old Ben stiller!
4. it's my birthday in less then a month
5. Chocolate bean is being phased out of my life...i have a full time job between school and church so it's a bit full on doing part time work too! which is sad cause the people i work with are ace and what can i say...I DO REALLY LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!

that's all i can think of!

but installments will be more frequent these days...I hope!

good day to you.
