class of 2010

I've been working at my current place of employment for almost 5 years now. It's funny how some things never change and yet there are things that are ever changing. Today the year 12's had their final assembly. There is a long standing tradition at CC that the year 12's run a final assembly in front of the whole school to celebrate their time at CC. It usually starts with a devotion, a speech from the head of senior school and principal and then subject awards. Then the fun begins, skits about teachers, songs and memories they have of school. I can't help but get nostalgic at this time of year as we farewell the graduating class. I think back to when I finished school...almost 10 years ago. I was only thinking on the bus on the way home how much time I have spent in school. I finished school, went to uni (and did a degree that didn't necessarily mean I would work in a school) and now I have been working in a school. And I was also thinking about how someone said to me that high school is the best years of your life, I don't think I would agree with that because the years since school have been great too!

It was a happy celebration day, but also a bit sad, because I am rather fond of those young men and woman. It has been a privilege and a joy to see them grow into the young men and woman they are and are becoming. Congratulations class of 2010!

to market to market....home again home again

I had some much fun yesterday! Mumma came and picked me up a bit before 9 and we headed over to Marion Church of Christ where the market was being held.

highlights of the day
hanging out with Mumma
meeting some lovely ladies who are very clever and very nice, and then chatting with them through out the day like we were old friends!
we actually sold some stuff! and a bit of everything too, books, cushions, clothes, magnets, and badges!
Jek and Sarah stopping by
Seeing people I knew and them being really encouraging about what we were doing!
been given some flowers at the end of the day
thinking forward to the next market in april

things learnt/not so highlights
take a hat...I got a bit sunburnt
take a few extra dollars to buy nice things...this can be good AND dangerous!
take a packed lunch, we seemed to miss the sausage sizzle
it was good to have a buddy at the stall so you could go to the toilet, get a drink, check the place out!
If I do it again, think about layout of the stall a bit more...perhaps iron the table clothe
the wind (if you look at the post below you can see the bunting and cloth flying in the breeze!)
I was completely spend at the end of the day but then had a fantastic night celebrating with friends who have just found out where they are moving to next year! and delicious curry...and trying vindaloo for the first time...it was rather hot!
But the best thing of the whole day was the relaxed atmosphere. People were lovely and I didn't feel really intimidated by the other stall holders! I enjoyed myself so much I think I will give it another crack in april! all in all a very worth while day.

my creative space

oh wow so I totally bit off more than I could chew this week! A lovely lady I met through work...who has moved on now to other things is helping to organise the MarionLIFE well being market this weekend! a while ago I saw Jo advertising it...and I almost contacted her then about doing a stall...but I chickened out. But then on Sunday when I came home from the school retreat there was an email on facebook saying that they had had a cancellation and there was a free stall up for grabs...I thought about it over night and thought heck let's do it if I fall flat on my arse my mum will be there to help me (she's coming along to help me set up and keep me company!)
So Jek helped me sew more of these little brooches and I've been punching out badges and magnets like there's no tomorrow!
So if you are in the Adelaide region come check it out and say hi on Saturday!! Part proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity

4 things to be thankful for!

So firstly a correction....when I came home from the camp I was telling Tim of my clever way to blog yesterday and I pretty much regurgitated what I had written to Tim and he goes...but your Gen Y too! :)

Anyway! There is so many things to be thankful for today!

Today I am thankful for friends and the good stuff that happens to them! Today one of my best friends is re united with her husband. Chris is an engineer in the army and has been in Afghanistan for this entire year....he left mid January (?) and today was the day he flew back into Brisbane! He is back safely with Sarah. This year we have heard of a number of Australian's loosing their lives over in Afghanistan, some of these guys from Chris's section. We are so happy he was kept safe! And so thankful he is home again.

Today I am thankful for a text message I received from a young guy who was on the school retreat I was on this weekend. He took a tumble last night and his ankle came off second best, we took him to the hospital last night but couldn't get it X rayed. The message I received was to say there's no broken bones! Just bad sprain and crutches for two weeks!

Today my sister in law is 26 weeks pregnant with twins! It is so exciting. Anna and Luke are already parents to our beautiful niece Isabelle and we are so excited to meet the twinnies! They are due in late January and we hope to meet them as soon as possible when they arrive!

I am thankful for opportunities...hopefully more about that later in the week.

...whoops 5 things then...And I am thankful for Tim for cooking us a delicious roast for dinner! He is a very talented cook and I really appreciate the time he put into making us a wonderful meal! And also for fixing my computer so the internet works again

When you stop and think, there is so much to be thankful for! What are you thankful for today?
Hope you have had and are having a wonderful weekend!

best chocolate chip cookies EVER!

that seems like a pretty big statement doesn't it but it is true! And that's what they are called in recipe book I got them out of!  I dare you to try them and then tell me if it's not the best! :)
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of white sugar
2 small eggs
a dash of vanilla
1 3/4 cups of flour
250 grams of chocolate chips
125grams of butter

preheat oven to 160 C. Using an electric mixer, cream butter with sugars until pale. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined. Beat in sifted flour until mixed through. Fold through chocolate chips.
Line a baking tray. Roll dough into teaspoon- sized balls and place on tray. Bake for 10- 12 minutes. If you like them chewy, don't let them brown as they will crisp as they cool down. MAKES ABOUT 48!!!
(once I got over 50)

this recipe is from this book! made by Pip!
I made some of these today...for a special birthday boy tomorrow...hopefully I don't eat to many before then!

red head

I got my hair coloured this afternoon! I haven't had it done in quite some time...and after I found a few grey hairs I got onto it!I'm not aging gracefully at the age on 26! :)
a friend of mine who's a hairdresser came over and did it for me and we had a great time chatting. I'm working my way up to something daring and crazy!
If you could colour your hair ANY colour what would it be!?

I've decided....

that I am not very industrious when it comes to cleaning...I tend to be able to put up with the mess for quite some time. I seem to be able to avoid the dishes for a number of days (Tim can do it for even longer), so it always seems to work out that I snap first and do them...the good thing is he does help dry! We leave lots of things on our kitchen table which is quite large for the area it is in, our kitchen is very small so the mess gets overwhelming quickly and the floor is feral. We don't put things away when we come home we dump them. It's annoying!! I wish I would just put my jacket, or scarf, or shoes, or whatever away where is goes straight away!! I wish I could get motivated to wash the dishes straight away and wipe the stove down if the food spits and splatters everywhere as soon as it happens not a week later when everything is caked on and you really need to get your elbow into it. It's OK until I can't put up with it any more...then I get agitated and grumpy! I think I'm also frustrated in the space we live in, continuing to make it our home and make it a nice haven for us to enjoy, while utilizing the things we already own, and using the small space well. I think what I'm trying to say is that I like it tidy, not to tidy but need a dose of can be bothered!

I think what sparked this was visiting a friends home for the first time and loved it!! It's a very small place but it's eclectic, and I really like it, it's cosy, and I know things annoy my friend about their space, like they don't have enough storage, and they just got married so there are a lot of gifts without a home! But it was nice to see how they have put things together and made it their home...anyway I digress

This morning I was VERY glad when Tim suggested a drive! I needed to get out of our squaller! We went to a lovely market today at Willunga which is a bit of a hike from our place but still lovely to go for a Saturday drive. There was a farmers market and quarry markets! some very yummy food and in one of the little halls there were some more arty stalls...and I found these!
in a seconds basket! 3 for $1! how cool is the smiley face one! when I showed the lady who owned the stall she thought it was great!
And I was cheeky and went back to the bazaar! taking one new friend and one friend who had already been with me last night! I got these cute coin purses for my sisters who's birthdays are coming up!
It's been a wonderful day! I hope you've had a wonderful Saturday wherever you find yourself today!
ps...if you have got this far thanks for listening to my rant!

bowerbird bazaar

Quite a number of months ago my friend told me that this market was coming up...
the bowerbird bazaar! from what I can gather two local Adelaide ladies put it together (along with all the store holders!)! It's lovely...pretty tempting to buy lots of beautiful things though! There were some stalls that I've seen the merch before around in local Adelaide stores which was nice! I had a delicious hot chocolate and met some really nice cool people selling their products...
although it was a little intimidating at first, it's hard to explain why but we had a nice time in the end!
I couldn't resist these beautiful flowers
or these cutie earrings...I did go there with a mission to find a present for bec and courty for their birthdays...but to no avail! If you are an Adelaide dweller...check it out this weekend they are open both tomorrow and sunday!

the invisible tree

a very talented friend of mine has been working on a special project! He has illustrated 2 books, these books are apart of the Invisible tree series. Love and Joy have just been released. The Invisible Tree is a series of illustrated children’s books seeking to impart great values into little people. Based on Galatians 5:22-23, The Invisible Tree is all about character traits that we all love, growing on the inside of our kids.

"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control."Galatians 5:22-23

Check out the invisible tree for other beautiful prints and books!
Well done Henry!
And congratulations on your engagement!

wednesday countdown!

It is seven weeks until we go on our overseas trip. Tim's first time ever overseas. My second but the 1st was on a VERY organised trip with habitat for humanity (...check them out they're an amazing organisation). We have had the tickets booked for a couple of months but we seem to be lacking in other organisational areas...like booking train tickets...well first deciding exactly which places we want to go! At this stage we're flying into London to spend a week with a friend from high school, and her husband. On to Paris, Belgium, Amsterdam, Germany, Prague (for Christmas)....and then back to Germany to fly out of Hamburg! We are really excited and incredibly lucky to be going on this trip. So in the next 7 weeks, it's fine tuning the details, booking some places to stay...at least that's one thing we have done accommodation in Prague...and putting aside the winter gear to pack...and making sure we don't take too much!
Have you ever been on an overseas trip? Where was your favourite place to travel to?

a package of care

My little sisters are not so little any more! They are in year 12 and are about to start with their final exams. I work at a high school part time as the youth worker and I really get annoyed when the students are told this is the most important year of your life...and the undercurrent I get is...if you stuff this year up well you can't be a lawyer or a doctor...well maybe that's OK! It puts too much pressure on the kids I think anyway!
So I got a spark of inspiration to encourage the little ladies with a care package...some items perhaps more serious then others!

There are slightly different items in both, because let's face it they are both really different people! It was lots of fun to find all these little things and put them together. And to write a word of encouragement! I didn't have to spend heaps of money either. The most expensive things would have been the vitamin C's! And let's face it they are worth it!

I've also been having a lot of fun going around to the blogtoberfest participants...I've managed about 30 this morning...it might take me a while to visit everyone! BUT it sure is fun!
