let's have a craft-a-noon...or night

Last night I had the chance to hang out with my sisters and my mum...ON A FRIDAY night! I don't usually get this chance because i usually have youth. We had the night off and so we took the opportunity to make some Christmas cards.
With cup of teas and chai's beside us we stamped, cut and glued cards to send to loved ones. We all had some different ideas and inspired each other.

Bec giving into the crafty goodness and joining in with us. She wasn't totally into it to begin with...she was watching the Hannah Montanna movie when i arrived! We also enjoyed some tasty berry and chocolate muffins that Jek made. YUMMO. We got a few cards made, but mostly it was good to chat and spend time with each other!

the...it's worth it moments

In my job I work with teenagers. Working with teenagers can be either really frustrating or really rewarding. Today I had one of those moments when I was like.."oh shucks". I have been visiting a year 11 class all year, first part of the year was peer support and then the second half of the year turned to studies of religion, the class changed a bit with the students who were in it, but many were the same from the first semester. This semester they have been tackling post modernism and ethical issues. It has been a really interesting class to sit in on and hear what the students have to say. Today was their last lesson before their exams next week and I had been held up in my office talking to another student...when one of the boys from that class came in and said you should come up to our class we're watching a movie and chilling. I didn't get to the class but just before recess three boys came and found me and said "Lauren thank you for coming into our class each week, we've appreciated your input and hanging out with you"...something along those lines.

and they handed me a box of chocolates! it was delightful and then they proceed to all give me a hug! this is a moment when you go..ahh yeah my job is pretty great! and then it made sense what the other guy had said...you should come up to class Lauren! they are total gems!

I learnt German in school from grade 5 to grade 12....that is a lot of eins, zwei, drei! Anyway in year 11 or 12 I can't specifically remember, but my group of friends and I made shirts and made different patches and things to put on them. This was one we made...it didn't make it to the final shirt but i have just found it in my spare room! Mich hat ein pferd gebissen...which means...I have been bitten by a horse! :)

what have you been making lately?

Chair cushions...well i made some for our chairs when we got a new table and chairs...they were wooden and a bit hard and prone to scratching...so i got some really cute fabric and made some...i did a post about it...i would do a link but I'm a bit dumb when it comes to doing that sort of nifty techno stuff! but I am making more out of this fabric...

and this fabric...they are for some special people...i'm not going to say who in case they read this :)

Christmas...and this year it seems like red and white are the favourite colours in the shops! which i think is very nice!(this little cup from Gloria Jeans)...

my place or yours? through the front door

I really love coming home when I have been at work, had a long day or have been on a long trip. There is no place like home as Dorothy says! when I walk through the door I see our comfy couches and they are somewhere to sit whether totally warn out or totally relaxed and rejuvenated! I usually see a lot of other stuff on the floor and about the place too! :) This a picture of the door to our apartment...the picture of the angel came from my old apartment and when we got married I put it up for Tim and I. I think it's a cute hello when you arrive home!

I found this weeks challenge a little bit hard... secret weapon....what is my secret weapon. I decided it would be water because it has been so STINKING hot here in Adelaide that I have had to chug down so much water to feel relatively normal! so here's to you crisp cold water!

sewing fun!

Last week i popped past a fabric site i REALLY like to visit! we found it on our honeymoon in Tasmania...check out www.seworld.com.au there are great pieces and because I have been getting excited about the whole making things for Christmas i have a few things in mind for this fabric! when i get the sewing machine off my sister and start sewing I'll post some pictures!

interstate travel

On the weekend i got to travel to Perth and to my uncle's wedding. He got married to Pamela and it was special to be at their wedding. they were both pretty nervous but very happy!

On Sunday I got to hang out with these cute kids. My cousin Mikaela and my cousin Lee and his wife Libby's children Copper and Emma-lee. We had fun! and they are SUPER cute!

All Emma-Lee wants for Christmas is her two front teeth! :)

57 days til christmas

I've been getting excited about Christmas! quite a few weeks ago Tim's older sister emailed around saying here's some ideas for Christmas presents for me can everyone send around some ideas so we get you something special that you really want. so that got me thinking about buying those things. On my side of the family we are doing Secret Santa. one person each. I got possibly the easiest person in my family and have been having lots of fun buying small things every week to add to everyone's presents. here's a sneak peak...
I bought a badge maker a couple of months ago and have been having LOTS of fun making badges and so of course...EVERYONE is getting badges this Christmas...however, a lot of them are pretty girly, so Tim helped me come up with these more manly badges for him, father and father in law and brothers in law!
I've also been inspired by lovely crafty blogs i have been reading lately. One lady has taken a pledge for a whole year to buy only hand made or second hand things for her home, and then read that another lady is taking this pledge for Christmas so everything she gives will be handmade, by her or someone else! I really liked that idea, so i am making steps to do that this Christmas...it's hard for the men...but it's easy to make pretty things for the girls or find pretty things by talents crafters!

a good read

sometimes...just sometimes i find a book that i just can not put down. I have found since uni i have been really take it or leave it about reading...because i had to do so much at uni! having bought this book maybe about 12 months ago after seeing it reviewed in Frankie, I started reading it about 2 weeks ago and finished it in a week. Easy to follow and quite an enjoyable story line it was great to read before going to bed . And the cover is really pretty too! :)

this weeks theme for my place or yours...is your blog HQ...it has recently changed for me! it was this space...which is mainly Tim's space for computing type activities...games...and a few assignments are written from time to time.

but i think it will become this space from now on...because the spare room is a little more functional now, i can actually get to my little desk AND sit at it! how novel!

baking bonanza

this is pretty much my favourite toy at the moment...after the badge maker! We received it as a wedding gift and have made some yummy biccys and cakes which have been extra fluffy and good because of the even mixing that this mix master does! :) Tim has even used it!

your place or mine? Bedside table

this is what you can find on my bedside table at the moment...well bedside chair! our dining suite is sort of too big for the area that it is in...in our flat so to make it fit it's right up against the wall and the 2 extra chairs live beside our bed as bedside chairs! i have some vouchers from our wedding, a bible, a journal, badges, bobby pins..and a few other random items!

I have been searching all over and have found some really FUN crafting blogs! I heart birthdays

I really like birthdays! I think it is because you get presents and get to eat cake and get mail...IN THE LETTERBOX!!! i also really like it when other people have their birthday because i like joining in on their fun! Today is Tim's 26th birthday. so this post is dedicated to him! happy birthday to my beloved. We have enjoyed a lovely breakfast and walk through the city. he is now enjoying his game on play station three and that's why i am doing this! later we will catch a movie and then Tim will probably enjoy a big steak for dinner! A very happy day indeed!

new ambition!

Last night Jek and I went and saw Whip it! we have both decided to join the roller derby now! it was SO MUCH FUN!!! I haven't roller skated in many moons BUT i think it will be ok...with a bit of practice! :)

badgemaking heaven!

a couple of weeks ago my small group from church came over and we had a badge making extravaganza! we had lots of fun and made some really cool badges! I had another afternoon today and Kara bought some great papers over and we went nuts! any one want to buy any badges! i have a few hundred!

purely for procrastionation purposes...

these are some chair covers i made for our dining suite. The chairs were beautiful but a little hard for me...and had the potential to get scratched easily...so i found this material in Launceston while honeymooning. I bought it without knowing what it would be used for and then when i decided, had to order more over the Internet. this post comes to you while i procrastinate from finishing my tax. It has driven me spare this morning and I'll probably be forced to eat copious amounts of chocolate treats this afternoon to recover...

Saturday afternoon fun

Because Jek and Dave held a secret wedding we couldn't give Jek a hen's night before the party...otherwise people would have got suspicious! so Yesterday we held her a bridal shower! pass the passel, bridal bingo and plenty of cookies and shortbread to sink a battle ship! the wind was a little annoying but the rain held off and we enjoyed the warmth out in the beautiful wellington square.

The other night we went shopping and bought some eggs...and when i opened the pack up to see if they were all whole...i saw THIS!!!!

I squeeled with laughter! I was reminded of these little faces tonight when i again opened the packet to start baking for Jek's bridal shower tomorrow, so it's a late night post as i wait for the treats to cool!

other wedding fun!

For our wedding in July I got to do some sewing and badge making! i showed you the badges but didn't post any photos of the sewing! I even got someone else to help me with the bunting because i knew she'd do a great job! it was lots of fun putting the yummy truffles in the little bags! We even got to sample one or two!

food and snow in tasmania

we enjoyed seeing snow in Tasmania, for me it was the first time i had EVER seen snow in the wild...you know not at a ice skating rink or mount Theberton! :)
and we enjoyed lots of different lovely foods at the many cafes that were in and around Hobart. truly wonderful.

and Love and Clutter was my favorite shop from Hobart, it had lots of pretty hand made things in it. Babies clothes, mobiles, hair clips badges brooches, scarves. I wanted to take everything home...and Sez you would have loved it too!
